Signs your Xbox disc drive is failing
Drives fail three ways: the laser weakens, the motor or gears wear, or the drive board dies. Each has a distinct symptom — and a fix.
Discs spin but never load
Console takes the disc, spins up, then sits or errors out. Weak or dirty laser lens — the most common drive failure.
Grinding or clicking noises
Mechanical noise on insert or eject. Worn gears or a misaligned sled — service before it scratches your discs.
Won’t accept or eject discs
Disc won’t feed in, or gets stuck inside. Roller or eject mechanism failure — we also do safe stuck-disc removal.
Reads some discs, not others
Older or dual-layer discs fail while new ones work. Laser output degrading — full failure is coming.

Series X error that often points at the drive failing to authenticate the disc rather than a licensing problem.
Drive is completely silent
No spin-up at all on insert. Drive board or power fault — diagnosis tells us whether it’s the drive or the console board.
